    • Full hacking and re-waterproofing where the original membrane has failed comprehensively

    In each case, the repair should begin with a diagnostic assessment that identifies the extent of the damage and the appropriate method of treatment.

    When a toilet leak has already reached the flat below, the repair involves managing relationships as well as water. HDB’s framework places responsibility for internal waterproofing maintenance on the flat owner above, but the impact is felt by the neighbour below. Addressing the problem promptly and professionally helps manage that dynamic.

    HDB bathroom waterproofing repair carried out by an experienced contractor provides documentation that can be shared with the affected neighbour and, if necessary, with HDB directly. This matters for managing any disputes that arise from water damage to the unit below.

    What to Expect From a Professional Repair

The work should be accompanied by a warranty that covers the treated area for a defined period. Any contractor who cannot offer this assurance is not providing a repair with confidence in its durability.

    For homeowners in older HDB flats, a proactive assessment is worth considering even before visible signs of failure appear. Catching membrane deterioration before it becomes an active leak avoids the added complication of third-party damage and the associated cost of resolving a dispute with the neighbour below.
